Cool idea, and I like the work you put into it! I'm already a major fan of Major Gadfly. That said, the site is very nearly impossible to read, which detracts a bit from the experience. There are a lot of antique-looking fonts out there, such as the IM family, that might let you keep this delicious ambiance while being a bit easier on the eyes. Seriously, awesome idea though!

yes! Sorry that it has taken me so long to respond: my Comments have been experiencing some interesting technical difficulties. But I think you've hit on something there: play is vital to the process. Also, sometimes all you need is a change: switch from writing on a laptop to writing on paper, and sometimes that alone is enough.

I like your approach. I suspect the key to its success is that doing the work via your site makes it feel more like thinking and doing rather than WRITING. As far as I can tell, all writer's block comes from some level of fear -- fear that the writing isn't good enough, that you're doing it wrong, that you're stupid, etc.

Fiddling with the mechanics of the blog and the photo gallery and the chat room takes the focus off of those things and brings you back to playful, creative *work* -- which is what writing should be.
